Broadband for Nigeria Forum - BB4NG
Submitted by Omo Oaiya on Fri, 2010-07-09 09:06.BB4NG Project invites stakeholders including consumer advocacy groups, internet service and infrastructure providers, regional and national regulators, National Government Institutions and Agencies, Regional Governmental Institutions, multilateral institutions, donor organizations, financial institutions, civil society, telecom operators, submarine fibre consortia, research and education institutions, libraries and library associations, the armed forces, and the general public to contribute to a framework for broadband initiative in Nigeria
According to Dr Ibrahim Aminu, Convenor of the forum, the aim is to produce a Framework Document that will guide the provision of broadband internet access to all Nigerians. This document will then be presented to the Federal Government of Nigeria and key stakeholder groups for inclusion in relevant policies and to guide broadband implementation.
Towards this end, the project has received some support from the Partnership for Higher Education in Africa (PHEA) through the Association for Progressive Communications (APC) of South Africa, to initiate the process and convene a Stakeholders’ Forum.
There has also been support to the initiative from Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Fantsuam Foundation, and Telecom Answers Associates.

Python Africa Tour Nigeria
Submitted by Omo Oaiya on Wed, 2010-06-02 15:36.The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is supporting the Nigerian stop of the Python Africa Tour as the first of a series of training workshops.
The 5-day software development workshop in the use of Python programming language will have volunteer python experts from across Africa and Europe in attendance to deliver training, programming workshops, and presentations in a BarCamp.
Python is a powerful dynamic programming language that is cross-platform and used in a wide variety of application domains. High level data structures and clear syntax make it an ideal first language and a flexible powerhouse for more experienced users. Full features, liberal licensing and good support has made it popular in scientific computing and rapid mobile application development in both business and academia.
Venue: African University of Science and Technology, Abuja
Date: 14 – 18 June 2010
Cost: FREE

AfREN Meeting
Submitted by Visitor on Sat, 2008-10-11 07:58.The Africa Research and Education Networking community will be holding a two-day meeting on 16 - 17 May 2009 in Cairo, Egypt. The meeting will discuss issues of interest to the NREN community such as coordination on activites in the region, advocacy, bandwidth consortia, regional RENs etc.

Bandwidth Consortium (BWC) Working Group, Abuja
Submitted by aminu on Mon, 2007-12-17 08:33.The African Higher Education Bandwidth Consortium Working Group will now meet on March 13-14, 2008 in Abuja, venue to be decided.
The postponement was occasioned by the unrests in Kenya.
AfNOG-9 and AfriNIC-8
