ICT Forum Study Proposals
As part of a process to aid it's membership and other Research & Education Institutions in their efforts to maximize existing network and energy resources and to assist in the planning and expansion of these resources, the Forum is currently calling for study papers in the following areas;
Electrical Power Monitoring
Proposals are sought for a system that would monitor and log power outages. The proposed system should possibly be capable of storing results of daily monitoring in digital format for a period of 2 or more years. Ability to subsequently present this information on demand via a web interface and determine or integrate information about power consumption from a UPS or PV system would be desirable.
Network bandwidth and Application Monitoring
The forum also seeks proposals for a system which will monitor the bandwidth usage of a VSAT link possibly with information about the various software applications in use. The ability to show relevant destination information would be an advantage. The system should be non-invasive and have no impact on the VSAT bandwidth.
Guidelines
Preference will be given to proposals that
- require minimal effort to deploy locally possibly with minimal training of local staff.
- based on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) suitably customized for the local environment.
- presented by a team of researcher(s) from more than 1 institution.
- can integrate with existing infrastructure at more than 1 institution.
- that proffer solutions that are applicable in more than 1 institution.
It is not important to develop a solution that works for all possible types of equipment.
The results from successful applications will be required within 3 months of the award date, with a minimum of 1 month of data acquisition.
Deadline for Submission
Expressions of interest in the form of concept papers for the study should be submitted on or before 30th June 2007
