Recently concluded ngNOG workshop and meetings in unilag-My perspective

The just concluded 3rd edition of the Nigeria network operator group workshop and meeting hosted by the university of lagos was an eye opener for us network interns and particularly me as a self confessed network enthusiast. My passion for networking, elicited the momment i took a course in it has now grown beyond the frontiers of the university of lagos to include a life long career path that i have already chossen without any doubt whatsoever. When the hosting of this edition was granted unilag,i saw it as one of the series of first steps i needed to expose myself to a wider view. The 5-day workshop saw me see networking from a wider, more detailed perspective, and the 2-day conference saw me see the synegy of the public and private sectors in networking and i was not disappointed at all with my experience of the event. Now that the workshop and meetings are over, the lessons learnt must not die.I intend to be a strong advocate and participant in carrying the gains of ngNOG further.I therefore welcome all tutorials, and opinions that will assist me in building a successful career in networking, especially in the area of internet infrastructure.

Re: Recently concluded the 3rd ngNOG Tutorial & Workshop 2008

First of all i will love to say a very big thank you to my heavenly father, Jehovah God, who made it possible for me and everyone of us to be there and also back to our various institutions without any problem. And no doubt, we all, the participants really enjoyed the programmed very well especially me since all what i have been wishing and looking for was just on the track i went in for and that is the Internet Infrastructure which is and still helping me to make good use of the software given to us, and that is the "Parket tracer version 5" which is a simulator that can help any system administrator to be able to know how to deploy internet infrastructure on any network. Now i can design, connects, configure both cisco switches and routers on the CLI as if i am sitting in my server room and then conntect my cable to the console port to configure my cisco devices. And this is now making me to continue to advance in my research and the need to protect the campus networking and also prove to everyone that yes IT is here to really stay in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions.

Now i can see myself deploying a port security and VLAN configurations alongside with trunking and even using one IP address to create multiple networks and also hosts thru the use of the simulator before deploying it in real life. That is great and i say may God continue to advance the knowledge of the The Nigeria ICT Forum of Partnership Institutions to continue to package NGNOG very well and making it possible for all the Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria to come and be part of the programm. However, i also want to use this medium to thank my Director of ICTC, Dr. E. Iyagba, for making it possible for me and my professional colleague to be there.

I pray also too that the tutorial and the conference will continue to live on us and also make us professional and better use on our institution so as the University will continue to see us as important than before in the field of IT as profesional. So i say may all the training, opinions and suggestions should continue to assist us and in building a successful career in internetworking, especially in the area of Track 1 & 2 thru this forum, and may we never let it die. Thank you.
