Bandwidth in this part of the world needs to be greatly subsidized for more people to have access to the global world which is the internet. i am on the opinion that government, stakeholders and well meaning Nigerians who wants the development in the society; in the area of research, informations and easy communication in e-business should help. Thank You
From my discussions with a lot of institutions in and around Kano state in particular, the need for a viable ICT implementation has been given serious priority. But due to the financial burden and challenges of providing reasonably good bandwidth, a lot of these institutions are almost giving up. Part of the reason being that the bandwidth subscribed for are mostly on individual basis. This does not give them a good playing ground for bargain. In this respect You see them globe throtting from one subscriber to the other only to realise they're all the same. The fact that the existing BWC, to a large extent, is not really 'local' makes it difficult to for institution to know about talkless of joining. To say it is timely that a local BWC be formed is to say the least. But we need a local BWC and we need it like yesterday.
Hi, does anyone have any idea of what Galaxy Backbone is actually doing to Higher Institutions with respect to curtailing the activities of Bandwidth Bandits & third party vendors?
We've also learnt that AVU has some goodies for the higher institutions in terms of subsidized bandwidth supply, has that got anything to do with you guys on the BWC?
I hope when you meet in February it will give many of us a cause to smile because we are frowning badly now.
Happy deliberations.
There are very inexpensive High-speed bandwidth solutions avaialable, has anyone visited the HMU Technologies site. http://www.hook-me-up.biz/tarrifs.html. Although prices are in US dollars you can see that bandwidth can be delivered at a low cost.
They are replicating the Pay-As-You-Go model, which has worked succesfully well for GSM operators in Africa, and introducing that within the Internet Broadband arena.
Re: Bandwidth Consortium (BWC) Working Group, Abuja
The BWC meeting is very expedient, because bandwidth issues have continued to dog us. Perhaps we can sit down and tell each other the truth
